Novella “Story of Your Life,” served as the film’s source material. The film tells the story of Dr. Louise Brooks (Amy Adams), a linguist working at an unnamed university. She's recruited by the government to communicate with extraterrestrial life when 12 alien "shells" — or UFOs — suddenly arrive on Earth, and in order to find out why they've come to Earth. To help her with this daunting task, her handler, Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) brings in Dr. Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), a physicist who can provide mathematical insight into the process of communication and the way they (Alien) came.

 

          I love this movie because it is the rare movie that succeeds on almost every level, where each character, scene,sound effects to make a film worth repeated viewings.", but that doesn't mean it is perfect. Ultimately, the whole story playing about the timeline, it will confuse you with the time. For instance, the beginning of story state that the daughter of Dr. Louise Brooks (Amy Adams) had died because of a rare desease, but at the center part of movie, I found out that she is still single and after a while i found out again she can view her future through her mind. I was like "aha", starting to understand the flow of the story.

 

         Compare to other movies , Arrival decided to take a slower tempo to bring out the beginning of the story, and seemed like ended up the story in a faster way. I think it was well set up . The arrival of the Alien aroused the attention of each country which they arrived. Every country intensed to take steps to meet the enemy head-on. During the process of communicating with Alien, Louise thought that they might not be here for war ,so she slowly approached them to get the answer. This makes the tempo of movie going slow. And the story ended up with an unexpected way. For instance, Louise told general Shang about the last word of the dying of his wife, but what if Louise cannot look further the future , to know the last word from his wife from genral Shang ? Will she changing the mind of general Shang for attacking the Alien but not gather with other country to share what information they got ?

           Dr. Louise Banks is an American linguist and she teach in an school. At the day Alien arrived , she recruited by the American government to join the team to analyze the alien species at the site in Montana.She really did a good job of using her special translating skill to communicate with Alien.             Ian Donnelly is a physicist who recruited by American Government also , then team up with Banks to communicate with Alien. He assisted in more scientific way such as gathered all the information and studied the information. He was impressed by the working attitude of Banks.            General Shang is the genral of China , he in charge of the team in China. He is one the the person that makes America govenrment intensed. When General Shang decided to attack the "ship" of Alien, the movie went to its peak. His decision actually change the future of human and Alien, because after he listened about the last word of his wife, he decided to share information with worldwide.            8-Year-Old Hannah (Abigail Pniowsky), 12-Year-Old Hannah (Julia Scarlett Dan), 6-Year-Old Hannah (Jadyn Malone) , these three actor put on a play with a same character to differentiate the timeline of the story. Although this character seemed less important but atleast it brought out the feelings of Banks and the choice of life of Banks. Banks choose to go on her life although she know the future is bad. But she walked forward to face it, because "Life is journey , but not destination".
