HONESTY & DECEIPTION

SINCE YOUNG, WE HAVE TAUGHT THAT “HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY”,  BUT AS WE START TO CONTACT WITH THE SOCIETY, WE LEARNT THAT THERE ARE SOME BENEFITS FOR DECEITS AS WE DIDN’T HURT THE OTHERS, THUS IT SI  AN ART TO DECEITS, THIS MAY BE IN CASE OF ARCHITECTURE.

THE MEANING OF HONESTY IS DIFFERENT AS EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT PERCEPTIONS ON IT. SOME THINK THAT A MODERN TECCHNOLOGY THREATEN THE TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE, DISRUPT THE DISCIPLINE OF PURITY AND SIMPLICTY. BUT, SOME OF THE THEORIES AND ARCHITECTS THINK THAT A NEW TECHNOLOGY OF CONSTRUCTIONS OR NEW MATERIALS MAY LEAD THE WORLD TO NEW SPACE, FORM AND FUNCTIONS. BUT THERE ARE SOME SUPPORTS THE COMBINATION OF  NEW AND TRADITION OF THE MATERIALS, TECHNOLOGIES AND FORM.

JOHN RUSKIN STATED THAT THAT HONESTY IS IMPORTANCE OF ESSENTIAL QUALITIES OF BUILDING MATTER IN HIS ARCHITECTURAL THEORY- THE SEVEN LAMPS OF ARCHITECTURE.  RUSKIN PREFERS TRADITIONAL PRODUCTIONS. RUSKIN CLARIFES THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF DECEITS:

1. DECEITS OF STRUCTURE

   COLUMNS SEEMS TO PLAY A ROLE OF STRUCTURAL MEMBER BUT IT DOESN’T

   THE USING OF IRON AS REINFORCEMENT FOR MANSORY WALL.

2.    DECEITS OF SURFACETHE

   USING OF PAINTING TO MAKE THE SURFACE LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER.

3. OPERATIVE DECEITS

   THE SUBSTITUTION OF CAST OR MACHINE WORK FOR THE HAND

VIOLLET-LE-DUC SAYS THAT MATERIALS SHOULD NOT BE WORKED IN A MANNER DIFFERENT FROM THE WAY THERE WERE ACTUALLY WERE BUT HE WELCOMES THE NEW MATERIALS AS IF CAN SOLVES THE STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS OR THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW MATERIALS BETTER SUITS THE NEEDS OF BUILDINGS AND MAKING IT MORE EFFICIENT AND CONVENIENT. HE ALSO BELIEVES THAT IF THE MATERIALS CAN BE INDUSTRIALLY PRODUCED, SURELY THE QUALITY IS UNIFORM; THE LABOUR COST IS LOWER AS WELL AS THE CONSTRUCTION EXPENSES.

WHILE THE FIL HEARN FEELS THAT NEW MATERIALS CAN LEAD TO A NEW SPACE, FORM AND FUNCSTION. THE MATERIALS ARE CHANGING AS DAYS GO BY, IT IS GETTING LIGHTER THAT CAN BE TRANSFORM FROM PLASTIC, VEGETATION OR ANY SUSTAINABLE. THE COMPUTER AND MATERIALS ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO BRING OUT THE ESPRESSION THAT COULDN’T WE FEEL ON SIGHT. THE WORLD IS OPACITY AND TRANSPARENCY HAS GIVEN WAY TO TRANSLUCENCY.
