ORNAMENTATION
Ones believes that whatever is attractive in itself , does not need to decorate or apply ornament because the thing is given its own value. Today , the significant aspect of ornament is widely-used especially in terms of the function of a building as an adaption of the post-modern approach.
In 19 century , most of the artist and architect argued about the ornamentation whether is a crime. Most of the building intended to be simple like big opening and flat roof from that moment. But ornamentation never stop
in architecture , it just change the meaning of ornamentation.
As the saying goes , "Ornamentation is only accepted to covering the unacceptable".Nowadays, the purposeof ornamentation has be changed due to the the thoughts of modernist. It remains the existence
of beauty, but changes the way it is. ouveau”. Contemporary architects use advanced technology with an intention todemonstrate their virtuosity in designing and producing surface effects. In the case of the Ravensbourne Collegein Greenwich, UK, built in 2010 by the Foreign Office Architects (FOA), the intention was to express the novelty offabrication technology (Figure 1-4). The building is covered with 28,000 aluminium tiles in different sizesand colors, which produce unique combinations on the façades around doors and windows.

Besides decoration, nowadays the ornamentation also has the function as the structure and shape of the building. The shape of a building is the ornament in contemporary architecture. While the traditional definitions of ornament are used, however, the overall case seems slightly ambivalent about the "why" of ornament at the building scale. Compared to ancient architecture, ornamentation is only a unnecessary part of building . The modern architect, however, take a wide step in changing the style of architecture, which is the transformation of ornament from unnecessary part to main part of the building. For instance, A church has been built in the shaped of a high heel in Taiwan. The blue building stands 55 feet tall, 36 feet high and is made out of 320 pieces of glass. The fashionable church is specially designed to appeal to female worshippers, with many attractive design features. The existence
of this building has proven that the ornament has become the necessary part of the building instead of a functionless decoration.
In a conclusion, ornamentation has become a topic that most architect and artist will argue about it. Its meaning change in time to time, people do not know how it is going to change or remain. However, the meaning of ornamentation is changing nowadays from 19 century, its main difference between ancient and now is bringing the ornamentation invovled into the main construction. This changes has their reason , which is human's thoughts and changing of time. Van de Rohe said, "Less is more", the less funtionless the ornamentation exist , the more beautiful
the building, the more useful the ornamentation be used , the more funtional the ornamentation is, and yet the more attractive the building is. In future, this topic can be go wider. Because human's thought never has an end, and that is the reason the revolution of architecture.
