MOHD HATTA ISMAIL
Mr. Mohd Hatta Ismail , an architect as well as a consultant at ATELIER DIA was giving a talk at PAM public lecture about his inspiration from and showing us some of his designs like SILALIMA , MUZIUM SULTAN ABU BAKAR , and etc. Mr. Hatta Ismail is one who comes with his own philosophy that impact to the designs.

This had attracted my interests to his talk ; I personally also agreed with this because if a building was built without attitude, all the effort will be useless. He also introduced the Wabi-Sabi architecture which he was inspired from in interpreting his design.
WABI-SABI represents different flow to aesthetic system. It is a beauty of things modest and humble as well as a beauty of things unconventional. Sometimes the aesthetic is described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

SILALIMA
KUANTAN
SILALIMA is a building which serves as a guesthouse that located at Kuantan. Mr. Hatta using concrete and cement as the construction materials to show the simplicity for the building. He also did mentioned that he insisted to dig a pond in front of the house which act as hierarchy at the entrance. The funny part is that this pond wasn’t required by the client. Instead of using ornaments on the wall to improve the quality , Mr. Hatta used art pieces to make the wall expensive valuable. He also emphasized the importance of mixing material and our design idea together , but not too excessive for the space quality , which will cause the space looks complicated.
From what he told to us in the talk , the material he loved to use the most is glass. Throughout glass the people from inside can have a clear visual connection with outsider or the environment. Using of glasses also allow the sunlight to penetrate into the building and gives a warmth condition. One of the great solution for the opening is the usage of pivot doors instead of sliding door. This is because sliding door have a common issue as there’ll be always one side that blocks the walkway which can be solved by using pivot door.
