PAM TALK

There is a Public lecture talk or so on we call as PAM TALK on 8 february 2017. The title is

Acquire understanding that presented by Mohd Hatta Ismail/ ATELIERDIA

Hatta, is popularly known and is no stranger to Malaysian design circles. An educator, designer, and mentor to many, Hatta's work encompasses many interests and domains, driven by an inquiring intellect and deep passion.

The main topic of this lecture is acquired understanding which means the idea of relating senses to objects and space towards consciousness that allow greater insight into an art, object, form and too space. He lecturing about the gesture of sketching, laying, and the repeating lines that bring to a deeper appreciation of those lines or the object that being drawn.

First, Mohd Hatta Ismail start his lecture with some sharing of his art piece work- BOWL PAPIER MACHE and abstract PAINTING.

He like to collect old things and he start up with some old collection when he was young. The bowl or wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death.

He shared about how the process of making the bowl and the material he used was totally different. The purpose of this acting is to experience and handle different kind of material, how can it bring different kind of result.

It's simple and direct in form with the mixture of varies colour. The painting is more on the feeling that he wants to express. The line, thickness, the colour, and the texture are more to simplicity and plain.

He once said that - ‘the painting is not just an art piece, it somehow represents the space, the meaning that is more than it’.

MOHD IN PAHANG

Looks forward into the interior of this museum, we can explore that the design of this concept is quite simple and minimalist. It does not contain too much of complicated elements and what Hatta emphasis is how he make use of the space and design without losing the quality of It.

He mentioned – ‘use space naturally purely ‘

To make the exhibition things floating in the air, Hatta intend to use the glass- fully transparent to strengthen the speciality and make it more unique or stand out from others that could impress people. Besides, another reason for Hatta to choose glass as the main material to hold the antique is because he wants the full concentration that focus on the metals. Distracting must be prevented. These lembings represent each of the heroes from the past and more like an art installation

SALILIMA, IN KUANTAN

A household that was adaptive reused to become a guesthouse to provide accommodation for the traveller. The first concept of Hatta that came in his mind was to design a jungle that is more to nature.

So, he came out the idea of digging a pond in front of the house. This pond serves as an important element and it became the hierarchy of this building because it is so attractive.

‘As a real architect, sometimes you need to insist on the ideas or concept you own, be the one that convince your clients and let them trust on you and yet do not fall back so immediately just because they don’t agree. '

It is your responsibility – MOHD HATTA ISMAIL.

Clients did not accept the suggestion at first, but Hatta succeed to convince going through the process.

A PLACE THAT FILL WITH UNIQUE

‘I like to take off things until nothing can remove anymore’

the space planning of the guesthouse is simple and not too much things inside.

What really contain has its own meaning. Because of the usual sliding door that only have half way to pass through, Hatta design a door that can fully opened and do not block anything.

Hatta remain some old elements such as the broken vent block, but he adds on other elements on some structure to make it more valuable.

The last building that I would like to share about; a building that served as a guesthouse too. Linear and simplicity are defined in these building. A stain steel gate is designed to make it more unique but do not forget the security. The passage way that made of concrete served as a welcoming pathway from entrance to the destination of the house.

As a conclusion, what I learn is the manner, the repetition, and the consistency of work could really influence the outcome.

Hatta said when people are trying to make things perfect in the progress, sometimes it came out with imperfection. It’s possible to define imperfection, because there is always obstruction throughout the life.
