ERIC CHEN

The lecture talk today was given by Eric Chen with the theme: BODY AND LANDSCAPE AS WAYS OF SEEING. He thinks that there is no limitation in the world but it is about what you think. Things always have open heterogeneous ends and pull out the maximum tension at both ends. He also explores the relationship between architects and “empathy” of body and landscape rough the repetitive intervention and formation of physicality. It also considers a possibility of differentiation, the conversion of material, the errors in connective points and the location of the body. In such a way, these factors can be embodied “empathy” of forming material texture, forming forces and common movements. In this talk, Mr. Eric shared how he thinks about the body and the landscape, how he use different materials to create a different feelings.

Reworking Archive: Dynamic Landscape

Reorganization of historical archives, oral interviews, writing, material research, old photo restoration, documentary, community context and landscape texture survey, in urban and rural exhibition space, showing the collection of the context can be seen and the relationship between the visible and invisible, but also to continue the creative practice, based on the link to the land, linking the relationship between the vertical and horizontal multi-level development.

Delineating the boundary between the natural and the artificial. When a person walking on the bridge, he will force to touch the stick and make vibration on it, then make ones to pay attention and feel of the surrounding.

In the end, Eric proceeded and stressed on his philosophy on architecture and his future arrangement which I believe is exceptionally helpful and roused. Being and globe-trotter, he jumps at the chance to investigate and find new world, each and every spots that he went will leave him an erratic creative energy. In architecture is not just about learning, but we need to explore and experienced it. Every single things is possible as long as we try, a small simple structure does not need to stand out in the crowd but contains a meaningful context within it and bring a higher living qualities to the surrounding. From how Eric brings him passion throughout every project, I have learnt a lot.
