CONTEXT & BUILDING
Context is external elements that influence an object. These elements are physical and non-physical. Roads, buildings and land contour are examples for physical elements while non-physical elements are weather condition, local culture, as well as political and economic constraints.
Contemporary architecture is influenced by many factors. These factors are the main context for the architects in designing a building.
The role of context in architecture today is city planning and space planning. Nowadays, over population is a very serious problem, this make the land and space become smaller and not enough for people to use. Architects nowadays start to design building that can save space and remain it’s function. Skyscraper and tall buildings are one of the example that can accommodate and contain more people with small land.
The space planning in a building is very important cause the land become smaller. How to maximise the limited space seen to be very important nowadays. Movable furniture, concealed storage and sliding walls give the option to use the space as a single space, or to divide it up into rooms. With house prices in every country is quite expensive, every square meter of available space counts.
Politics also play a large role in determining the direction of contemporary architecture. Recently the concept of sustainability was introduced to reduce the amount of electricity and water bills.
I think context predominantly an economic issue. Through these few decades, recession has given a big impact to slow down the buildings construction and building development. It has also given the psychological impact to all practitioners in construction industry.
Every country in the world does not have the same economic viability. This difference makes the practice of contemporary architecture is different from place to place. Therefore, the context makes the architecture style is geared towards the simple and clean façade elements.

By LAAB
Hong Kong is already one of the most expensive places in the world to live, and nowhere is this truer than in Central. A couple who desperately wanted to live in hong kong’s central district, commissioned the architects at LAAB to install a full kitchen, a large bathtub, a home cinema, a gym, cat friendly spaces, and plenty of storage into just 309 square-feet (28.7 square meters) of floor space.
Incredibly, this one space can take on a number of different forms: a traditional bathroom with a tub; a separate bath so that a guest can shower while the host brushes their teeth (or vice versa); seating that creates a two-tiered home cinema, or an area for large groups of friends; and a guest bedroom for short stays. these configurations can also be combined, allowing for a home cinema experience while in the bath, or movie viewing for the host and guests while both are in bed. according to the architects, achieving this degree of flexibility required over 30 design iterations and large amounts of experimentation.

In conclusion, response to the surrounding contexts is very important because it determines the success of a buildings’ design. In respond to these contexts will create communication channels between buildings and people around.
Thus, the context of climatic, cultural, political and environmental cannot be denied is very important in determining the contemporary architectural design.
