HONESTY  /  DECEIPTION

In contemporary architecture, many authors started to critique about the recently architecture building for their dishonesty. However, this critique has been proved by any association or people.

It just become one of the hottest topic between architecture and art. Honesty and Deception in a building can be expressed by many ways, and people will misunderstanding about the meaning of these.

In our lecture today , we leaned about two example of building , which discuss about the characteristic of the building. As I said, different people will have different opinion, so during
the discussion of the class, we have some argument about this.

MODERN

ANCIENT

For the old building, people said that is represent Honesty, because of the orginal materials be exposed. This is true, but what if the building didn't exactly need so much column to support the building, and this is the good example to represent DeceIption. As one of the most modern building in the world , which designed by Zaha Hadid, has also invovled in this argument.

Zaha hadid was used the best quality of materials to built this building , this is respectable to architecture and her building, is also considered as honesty in architecture. However, The original structure of the building has been cover. ALthough it served the purpose of beauty , but this is also considered as deceIption in architecture nowadays.

Apart from these two buildings we have learned, we still studied about three articles before the class. John Ruskin, Viollet-Le-Duc and Fil Hearn. Most of them actually agree with ways that materials should be used. They stated about the materials should be used in a correct and valueble way.For an example, stone is able to built up a lintel rather than built up an arch opening. Although their thought in materials used is the same, but they have different opinion with the construction method.

JOHN RUSKIN preferred the handmade production, he stated that a project done by handmade has its soul, it's make a building more alive. Besides that, he preferred a building to be constructed from one basic material, usually traditional stone or brick, rather than mixing them according to the various roles the elements would play, in the design as a whole.

Viollet-Le-Duc, one of the modern architecture today. As a theorist indebted to Ruskin, he also have different opinion with John Ruskin. Besides Honesty and Deception, all this two person argue about are old times architecture and contemporary architecture. Viollet-Le-Duc advocated using structural iron rather than masonry alone because it would permit architects to make larger spaces with lighter and stronger construction. He strongly agreed with industrially production, he thought this will speed up the construction duration and more efficient than handmande construction.

Honesty and DeceIption, have no the exact answer for any building , it depends on how theorist critique about it.
